Short Film Competition Program at PriFest

PRIFEST presents the competitive films in the short film category, a program that includes a range of films from European and global countries. This year, the program will feature five Kosovo premieres, one European premiere, and one regional premiere.

• ON TRACKS by Itai Kerem & Roni Vainer, Israel / European Premiere (21 min).

  A night journey through down-town Tel Aviv to break the toxic privilege of Israeli manhood and shed light on the lives of asylum-seekers.

  

• NOTHING BUT SHADOWS by Kathy Mitrani, USA/Colombia / Kosovo Premiere (13 min).

  On the anniversary of Marisol’s husband’s death, her neighbor’s construction uncovers human remains. The coincidence of this discovery terrorizes Marisol, a superstitious visionary, to face her mortality.

  

• A TORTOISE’S YEAR OF FATE by Yi Xiong, China / Kosovo Premiere (20 min).

  A factory worker longing for hope in his impoverished life and trying to liberate himself from his unpromising future. A melancholic tale of modernity and the decay of liberty.

  

• HIGHWAY OF A BROKEN HEART by Nikos Kyritsis, Greece / Kosovo Premiere (11 min).

  Somewhere, in the middle of nowhere, on an empty and badly lit part of an endless highway, Mary will do everything she can to win back the man who just broke her heart. But the night holds a big surprise.

  

• WHY ARE YOU IMAGE PLUS by Diogo Baldaia, Portugal / Kosovo Premiere (9 min).
  Ima, a curious dead child, tries to meet a Saint, so he can let her talk to her beloved grandmother.
  
• ELENA by Mateo CINGU, Albania / Kosovo Premiere (15 min).

  Elena, a hopeful and curious young girl, finds her dreams and perceptions challenged when she sees the young woman she met while selling almonds in a bar the night before, step in as her new school teacher. This unexpected encounter forces Elena to confront the blurred lines between survival and ambition in her challenging  environment.

  

• DER BLICK by Olivier de Bree, Germany/Netherlands / Regional Premiere (22 min).

  Klaus (mid-thirties) spends his summer holidays in a hot Airbnb apartment in the big city. Frustrated with life, he doesn’t do much apart from endlessly swiping on his phone, warming up microwave meals and spying on neighbors through a camcorder with an extreme zoom function. But is Klaus only looking at others, or is he being looked at himself as well?

  

The 16th edition will take place from September 10-15, 2024.
