PriFest’s 10th edition Special Guest Vanessa Redgrave – Full line-up revealed

07.07.2018

It’s only 10 days before the 10th edition of PriFest kicks off in Prishtina, capital of Kosovo. During the week of 17-22 July, a total of 58 films will be screened in various competition and non-competition programs including 6 world, 2 International, 3 European and 14 Regional premieres.

Many guests are expected to attend the festival presenting their films or taking part in the film industry strand - the regional film industry platform – Prishtina Film FORUM.

One of the important guests that is attending this year’s festival is Oscar Awarded British actress Vanessa Redgrave, who is returning after ten years to see the progress, having visited the festival in the opening day, back in 2009, when it started.

“We are really happy and honored to have Vanessa Redgrave come back to Prishtina. It is wonderful! She was here when we needed her most, in the first edition and gave us her blessing, and she is coming back again to celebrate a small jubilee with us. Moreover, she is bringing to PriFest her directorial debut film “Sea Sorrow” a very personal, dynamic meditation on the current global refugee crisis, which premiered in Cannes Film Festival. As a sign of appreciation, PriFest will present her with the award, our Golden Goddess, for all what she has done for the arts community in Kosovo.

She was there for us when we were refugees in Macedonia, came to visit us in the camps and encouraged us to be strong. She came back to Prishtina in September 1999 to organize a wonderful music and theatre festival called “The return”, celebrating the return of refugees to their homes in Kosovo, and then she came back again in 2009 to announce our festival open and accept the role of Honorary President of the festival. And now, she is coming back after 10 years and we are all thrilled” – shared her excitement one of the founders and Festival Director Vjosa Berisha.

The festival will continue to have many activities this year, with regional film projects competition Best Pitch of PriFORUM and Prishtina Rendezvous – an activity dedicated to distributors and sales agents from Europe to find out more about current Balkan film projects and meet filmmakers from this part of the world. Many other activities are expected to happen during the week, marking a small jubilee of first 10 years of festival’s existence. One of the important highlights of the festival this year is that it will be showing a record number of Kosovo productions, majority of them supported by Kosovo Cinematography Centre. The focus is also given to promoting the production capacities, locations and actors from Kosovo aiming to attract attention of regional cooperation in the film industry sector and bringing international productions to Kosovo.
