John Durie is the CEO of Strategic Film Marketing, based in London and Cannes. With over 30 years of experience, he has worked in marketing, international sales, and distribution on more than 800 films and documentaries, collaborating with renowned directors such as Joel and Ethan Coen, Pedro Almodóvar, David Lynch, and Quentin Tarantino, as well as many emerging European filmmakers.
Since founding Strategic Film Marketing in 1993, he has served as a long-term consultant for national film institutes across Europe, providing expertise in film positioning, audience targeting, and marketing strategies, as well as in the production of trailers and promotional visual materials. A pioneer of film marketing training in Europe, Durie led the Strategic Film Marketing Workshops of the Creative Europe program for 15 years and has delivered masterclasses worldwide.
He is co-author of the book Marketing and Selling Your Film Around the World and holds an MSc degree from the Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University.
